| Kamikazi was born on October 5, 1981 in Kinston, North Carolina. He was raised along with three brothers and one sister by mother Juliette Sutton who was born in Pompano Beach, Florida. Juliette always stressed the importance of hard work. Often times the six of them had to pack their belongings and move to various sections of Kinston in order to escape the perils of the inner-city streets. As a result, Kazi has lived in many parts of Kinston including Tower Hill, Dawson Station, Jericho, and Blount Street.
The skinny kid from Kinston attended Savannah Middle School and North Lenoir High School. Kami was always interested in sports because he had a fetish for competition. Despite being at a height disadvantage, Kazi was always a star on the basketball court throughout high school. He credits his mother and his basketball coach, Anthony Loftin for keeping him grounded and out of trouble during his high school years. At the age of 17 Kazi graduated from NLHS and headed to college at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. Even though Kazi has always been exceptionally talented when it came to rhyming, it wasn't until his freshman year at East Carolina that he decided to seriously pursue a career in rap music. He credits his brothers along with Adrian Lincoln, Michael Poole, Jason Ford and Brandon Johnson for giving him the needed encouragement to take his skills to the next level. Inevitably, Kamikazi linked up with Hot Bloc Records through long-time colleagues Michael Poole and Big Shoulders. Hot Bloc megastar M.O.S. listened in on a number of mixtape freestyles by Kamikazi. Soon after he was introduced to the HotBloc founders, and the rest, as they say, "...is history." Kamikazi's major musical influences include Jadakiss, Snoop, Outkast, DMX, Nas, and the legendary Tupac Shakur. Kazi's rap style can be described as flamboyant and aggressive. Individuals exposed to Kazi's music almost always immediately take a liking to his emotional southern accent and raw delivery. He feels that the most marketable aspect of his style is that he confronts a wide array of issues that everyday people can relate to. Kamikazi's goal in the music industry is to make a name for himself as the "single most electrifying rapper alive." He also plans to utilize rap music as a venue to acquire the means to fulfill his many dreams, while taking care of his family in the process. |
